JP Weather Sky LLC offers a straightforward refund policy for our digital products. We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. If you are not, we will refund you. No complicated forms. No interrogation about why. Just a simple process that respects your time and your decision.
Digital Sky Guide — PDF
Our primary digital product is the JP Weather Sky Guide, a comprehensive PDF document covering cloud identification, sunset prediction, stargazing locations, and atmospheric optics in Tokyo. The guide is priced at $12.00 USD.
We offer a full refund within 30 days of purchase for any reason. You do not need to explain why. You do not need to prove that the guide was defective. If you want your money back within 30 days, you get it. Period. After 30 days, we evaluate refund requests on a case-by-case basis and generally honor them if there is a genuine issue with the product.
Because the guide is a digital download, we trust you to delete your copy if you request a refund. We have no technical mechanism to enforce this. We rely on your honesty. In three years of selling this guide, we have processed 12 refunds out of approximately 800 sales. That is a 1.5% refund rate. We are proud of that. It means our customers are satisfied, and it means the few who were not were treated fairly.
How to Request a Refund
To request a refund, send an email to sky@jpweathersky.com with the subject line "Refund Request" and include your order number or the email address you used for purchase. We will process your refund within 5 business days. The refund will be issued to your original payment method. Depending on your payment provider, it may take an additional 5 to 10 business days for the refund to appear in your account.
Photo Collections and Bundles
We occasionally sell curated photo collections from our archive, priced between $5 and $25 depending on the collection size. These are also digital downloads and are subject to the same 30-day refund policy. If you purchase a bundle that includes the sky guide plus photo collections, the entire bundle is refundable within 30 days. We do not offer partial refunds for bundle purchases unless there is a technical issue with one specific file.
Consulting Services
For consulting engagements — such as providing atmospheric data for film productions, photography projects, or writing commissions — our refund policy is negotiated in the service contract. Generally, deposits for consulting work are refundable if the project is cancelled by the client more than 14 days before the scheduled start date. Deposits are not refundable for cancellations within 14 days, as we typically reserve that time and decline other opportunities.
Technical Issues
If you experience a technical problem with your download — corrupted file, incorrect format, or incomplete delivery — contact us immediately at sky@jpweathersky.com. We will resolve the issue within 24 hours, either by providing a working download link or issuing a full refund, whichever you prefer. We have never had a technical issue that we could not resolve quickly.
Fraud Prevention
We reserve the right to decline refund requests that appear fraudulent or abusive. This includes customers who request multiple refunds for the same product, customers with a pattern of purchasing and refunding across multiple products, or customers whose refund requests coincide with suspicious payment activity. We have never actually invoked this clause, but we reserve it for the protection of our business. Honest customers have nothing to worry about.
Currency and Exchange Rates
All prices are listed in United States Dollars (USD). If you are purchasing from outside the United States, your payment provider will convert the amount to your local currency at their exchange rate. Refunds are processed in USD, and the amount you receive may differ slightly from the amount you paid due to exchange rate fluctuations between the purchase date and the refund date. We have no control over exchange rates and cannot compensate for these differences.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Refund policies in effect at the time of your purchase apply to that purchase, regardless of subsequent policy changes. We will not retroactively modify the refund terms for purchases already completed.
